At Saint Mary School, we recognize that important learning takes place outside of our daily lessons.  Our students are exposed to student government, clubs, activities and special events that nurture their talents and allow them to explore and develop new interests.  Whether involved in athletics, the arts, clubs, community service, or spiritual growth, students at SMS have fun, work together, and develop skills that will help them succeed.

In addition to all of the extracurricular opportunities, tradition is alive and well at SMS.  As a community, we celebrate in events that bring us together and foster our sense of school spirit and pride.  Perennial favorites include Trunk or Treat, Veterans Day Assembly, our bi-annual Book Fair, Christmas Pageant, Catholic Schools Week, Teachers vs. Students Basketball Game, States Fair, Colonial Day, Spring Field Day, Memorial Day Parade, Wax Museum and Heritage Night.

Field Trips

Academics are enriched for our students by the active hands-on experience of field trips.  Field trips increase student knowledge and understanding of a subject and add realism to the topic of study.  Field trips will vary from year to year, but recent examples have been visits to New Pond Farm, the Woodcock Nature Center and the Ridgefield Playhouse for our younger students, and Sturbridge Village, Chelsea Piers, and New York City for our older students.

Athletics

SMS is devoted to educating the whole child, and physical fitness is an important component.  In addition to twice-weekly physical education classes, our students have the opportunity to participate in Track & Field, open each spring to students in K to Grade 8.  SMS competes in the Danbury Parochial League and participates in three competitive track meets per season.  SMS also fields a Cheerleading program that is open to Grades 2 - 8. And our middle school students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive sports under a reciprocal arrangement with another local private school.  Offerings have included Cross Country, Soccer, Lacrosse, Basketball and Volleyball.
