The Home School Association (HSA) is our parent body charged with enriching our children’s school experience through the many family and other events scheduled throughout the year.  Through its efforts, the HSA aims to promote a cohesive school community, provide support and appreciation for teachers and staff, and sponsors and supports activities that generate funds to enrich the school.  The HSA also provides information and education for our parent body and a channel of communication between parents, teachers, and administration, fosters parental involvement in school functions, programs, and projects, and heightens awareness of the school in our community.

Every parent at Saint Mary School is a member of the HSA.  We all have different gifts according to the graces given us, and we encourage you to use these gifts as you become involved in the many volunteer opportunities available throughout the year.  The success of the HSA depends on the active participation of all of its members. We welcome you to the SMS community and thank you for sharing your time and talents with us!  Please feel free to contact any of the HSA Executive Board members to learn more.

Child Protection Policy for Volunteers:

In order to work with children in the Diocese of Bridgeport, volunteers must be cleared through the Child Protection Program (VIRTUS). To be in compliance, a volunteer must:

  1. Register to attend a child protection class.  You will select the green link on the left side of the screen labeled First Time Registrant.  And then you will click on the Begin the Registration Process link.  Please choose Bridgeport , CT (Diocese) as your organization and follow the prompts through the registration and enrollment process.

  2. Upon completion of step 1 above, you will be directed to the secure website of the company that performs background checks for the diocese, Mind Your Business, Inc.  Please follow the prompts that will lead you through the background check process.

  3. Once you have attended the required child protection class, you will be given a certificate of completion or provided an identification card showing you are VIRTUS trained.  Please bring your certificate or card with you to SMS.  Ms. Harron, SMS Administrative Assistant in the front office, will maintain a copy in the school files.
