Q. Is SMS a parish school?
A. As a Diocesan School, SMS operates under the guidance of the Diocese of Bridgeport and follows the curriculum maps set forth by the diocese.  Saint Mary Parish is very supportive of our school, and the pastor, Monsignor Bronkiewicz, sits on the School Advisory Board.

Q. What academic calendar do you follow?
A. SMS follows the Ridgefield Public School calendar, with the exception of holy days.

Q. Do you offer busing?
A. Busing is available for all Ridgefield residents.  Residents of NY state who live within 15 miles of SMS may also be eligible for busing provided by their local bus company.  Residents of other Connecticut towns must be driven to school.

Q. What towns are students from?
A.  The majority of students are from Ridgefield, but also come from Wilton, Redding, Bethel, Danbury,  Connecticut; and North Salem, South Salem, Brewster, Carmel, Katonah and Waccabuc, New York.

Q. How many students attend SMS?
A. For the 2012-2013 school year, there are 190 students in our K- Grade 8 program, and 80 preschool students.

Q. How many classes do you have per grade?
A. In the preschool, there are two 3 Year old, and two 4 Year old classes.   There is one Transitional Kindergarten class.  In Kindergarten – Grade 8 there is one class per grade.

Q. How many teachers do you have?
A. We have 24 Full time and 13 part time teachers and staff.  The average teacher tenure is 11 years.

Q. Are there uniforms?
A. Students in Kindergarten – Grade 8 wear uniforms.  You can learn more about the uniform guidelines by clicking here.  Our preschool students do not wear a uniform.

Q. Do you offer a hot lunch program?
A. Yes, Sarah Whitten Catering runs our hot lunch program.  Meals are ordered in advance, and a la carte items are also available for purchase.  

Q. What are school hours for Kindergarten – Grade 8?
A. For Kindergarten – Grade 8, the regular school hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 2:15 pm.  On early dismissal days, school is dismissed at 10:55am.

Q. What are Preschool hours?
A. We offer a wide variety of preschool programs.  Half day classes for 3 and 4 year olds run from 8:45 am – 11:15am.  Full day classes run from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm.  Transitional Kindergarten also offers half day, from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm or full day from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm.  For more details on the preschool offerings, click here.

Q. What is the age requirement for Kindergarten?
A. Students must be 5 by December 31, 2013 to apply for the 2013-2014 school year.

Q. Is financial aid available?
A.Yes, financial aid is available for students in Grade 1 – Grade 8.  Click here for more information

Q.  Do you have a full time nurse?
A.  Yes, we do.  She is on site every day, and cares for all students, Preschool - Grade 8.  Click here for more information.
